Thérèse joined the World Bank in 2017 as a Senior Education Specialist Consultant. Her expertise includes education, hygiene and sanitation in schools, integrated early childhood development and child protection. She provides technical support to projects in the areas of education, human capital, and skills development for jobs for women and youth. Her focus is currently on the Investing in Early Years Projects in Burundi and Education in Emergency Situations in the five Sahel countries.

Prior to joining the Bank, she was a Program Specialist for UN Agencies in the UN reform context «Deliver as One», working with UNICEF, UNESCO Paris, WFP Ethiopia, UNDP and UNFPA Burundi. With UNICEF, she worked in 4 Sub-Sahara African countries:  Burundi, Senegal, Ethiopia, and Zimbabwe, to help achieve the results on the UNICEF agenda for girls’ education.

She is a former teacher who has taught in primary and secondary schools, and at the university level in Burundi. She has helped design school programs and is passionate and highly dedicated to the development of the education sector. 

She holds a master’s degree in biology didactics and science of education and a postgraduate diploma in environmental sciences, both, from the University of Paris VII Jussieu in France.
