Thilani is an undergraduate from the Department of Business Economics, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University Of Sri Jayewardenepura in Sri Lanka.
Thilani was selected as part of the Sri Lanka delegation for the 10th South Asia Economics Student Meet (SAESM), held in Lahore in December 2013. Her paper on rural electification in Sri Lanka was selected as the winner in the Political Economy of Access to Energy and Natural Resource Use category at the conference.
