An economist by training, Thomas Melonio joined the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) (French Development Agency) in 2005, initially in the Economic Research Department. His work focuses on issues ranging from education funding to international migrations. From 2012 to 2017, he served as Deputy Advisor, then as Senior Advisor on Africa to the French President. He subsequently returned to AFD as Executive Director for Partnerships and next as Executive Director for Innovation, Strategy and Research. Since 2024, he has served as the AFD Group’s Chief Economist and guides the Group’s strategic thinking, engaging in dialogue with other major financial institutions, notably within the Network of Chief Economists of development agencies and international financial institutions.
