Ulrike Lehr is a Senior Economist at the Jobs Group at the World Bank. She is an energy economist leading analytical work on job implications under the green transition, focusing on climate change mitigation and adaptation, clean energy transitions and climate change impacts on jobs along the tourism value chain. Ulrike joined the Bank late in her career, bringing a multitude of private and public sector work experiences to the table.
Before joining the World Bank Group, Ulrike led the Socioeconomic Unit at the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. In this role, she contributed to several of IRENA’s flagship reports, such as the World Energy Transition Outlook, the Energy Transition Outlook for Africa, country outlooks for Indonesia, Japan, and Korea as well as IRENA’s annual flagship report on Renewable Energy and Jobs. Between 2011 and 2020, Ulrike co-led the Energy and Climate Group of the German Institute for Economic Structures Research (GWS), where she developed simulation models for the jobs impact of energy and climate policies in European countries, Central, Asia and MENA. She also is a partner of GWS. Ulrike is a Physicist and an Economist by training, having received a Diploma in Theoretical Physics from the University of Essen, Germany, an MSc in Economics from the Virginia Polytechnical Institute and State University, USA, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Germany.
