Valeriya joined the World Bank as a Young Professional in 2011 and has worked in three regions: Europe and Central Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Middle East and North Africa. She works on a broad range of financial sector topics, including SME finance, responsible financial access, agriculture finance, state-owned financial institutions, financial sector oversight and policy, and pension reform. In addition, she has extensively worked on business environment and competitiveness issues during her career at the Bank. Valeriya has led preparation and implementation of lending projects in Tajikistan, Tanzania, Uganda and Morocco and technical assistance and analytical activities in various countries. She currently works in the Middle East and North Africa region where she leads financial sector work in Libya and Saudi Arabia. In Libya, the main focus is analytical work and capacity-building of the Central Bank of Libya and banks in Islamic finance and SME finance. In Saudi Arabia, support is being provided to the central bank (Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority), Kafalah Credit Guarantee Scheme and Social Development Bank in various areas of financial sector development, such as access to finance and financial inclusion, savings mobilization, housing finance, deposit insurance and Islamic finance. Valeriya is also a deputy mission chief for the ongoing Philippines Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP) Update. Prior to joining the World Bank, Valeriya worked in financial services consulting and in academia. Valeriya holds a PhD degree in finance from the Kiev National University of Economics in Ukraine and an MBA degree from Kogod School of Business, American University in Washington DC. She is also a CFA Charterholder.
