Vilas is a former staff member of the World Bank Group (WBG) in Washington, D.C. Over the years, he has worked across many departments: Operations, Budgeting, Finance, and Development Economics. He has designed, developed, and managed a number of statistical and operational data systems on socioeconomic, financial, and management information. He has recently worked on compiling a subnational sectoral dataset, including its metadata, for the WBG’s new Open India app. He has also worked as an advisor at the Inter-American Development Bank on developing and implementing an Open Data site focusing on Latin American & Caribbean development data. Vilas received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India, and an MBA from the George Washington University.
