Wei Zhang, a Chinese National, is a senior financial sector specialist with the Finance and Markets Global Practice. Wei is currently based in the Kuala Lumpur office and works on the design and delivery of knowledge transfer and technical assistance program on financial sector development with Malaysian financial sector regulatory authorities. Since joining the World Bank in 2001, Wei has worked on financial sector development projects with countries in the East Asia and Pacific region mainly, engaging in technical advisory and lending operations to clients on capital market development, Non-Banking Financial Institutions development, innovation financing, small and medium enterprise (SME) finance and financial inclusion strategy and policy development. Between 2008 and 2010, Wei worked as a senior investment consultant with a global investment consulting firm providing technical advisory to large institutional investors on investment strategy, governance and asset management. Prior to joining the World Bank, Wei worked in telecommunications industry on international business development and on poverty reduction program implementation in China.
