Will Schmitt is an expert on innovation processes and design in International Development and is an Innovation Services Officer with the WBG’s Innovation Labs. He leads various efforts in applying open innovation methods to World Bank operations and a design thinking portfolio testing applications for World Bank country operations. Will previously served USAID as Open Innovation Advisor in the Office of Science and Technology (now the US Global Development Lab). There, he focused on innovation and new models for promoting entrepreneurship. He was a founding member of the Grand Challenges for Development program. He was also a co-founder of LAUNCH, a unique technology and entrepreneurship support program co-presented by USAID, NASA, the US Department of State, and Nike. Will has field experience in Nigeria, South Sudan, and Kenya with strong Asia regional experience. He has also served as a consultant and advisor to corporations, small business clients, and non-profits.
