Xiawei Liao is an Environmental Specialist based in Singapore and contribute to the development and implementation of lending operations, knowledge products and policy dialogue in China, Mongolia and Indonesia, and serve as a focal point for engagement with Singapore. His work covers a broad range of environment and natural resources related issues including integrated landscape management, water resources management, as well as climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Prior to joining the Bank’s Singapore office, Xiawei was an Associate Professor at the Bay Area International Business School at Beijing Normal University in China. His main research interests include Responsible Investment, Green Finance, Environmental Management and so forth. He was also the Director for Development and Strategy Department, leading the school’s academic development and six research centers. Prior to that Xiawei was an ETC with the World Bank’s Beijing Office where he worked on more than ten lending projects, published over 15 reports and engaged in complex policy dialogue. Xiawei holds a PhD on Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford, a MSc in Environmental Sciences from Peking University and a MA in Environment Policy from Waseda University in Japan. He also has a BSc and a BA(Econ) from East China Normal University. He has authored more than 30 journal articles and a book on China's water management. He likes travelling and working out in his spare time.
