Yele Batana

Senior Economist, World Bank

Yele Batana is a Senior Economist with Poverty and Equity Global Practice in Africa Region, leading statistical operations in Niger and Mali, after working on Burkina Faso, Mali, Guinea, and the two Congo. A Togolese national, Yele holds a Ph.D. in Public Economics and Development from the Université Laval after having completed bachelor’s and master’s degrees respectively at the universities of Lomé, Ouagadougou, and Montreal. Yele led or co-led several analytical works within the Bank, including the Guinea Systematic Country Diagnostic and DRC’s Poverty and Equity Assessment. Prior to joining the Bank, Yele was a Research Fellow for the Partnership for Economic Policy (PEP -Université Laval) after a research fellowship at OPHI at the University of Oxford, and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Université de Montréal. He is also author or co-author of several papers published in international journals and edited books in areas of poverty and development.
