Yoko Okura is a Disaster Risk Management Specialist based in Islamabad, Pakistan. She focuses on disaster and climate resilience operations in Pakistan and Bangladesh, leading project components on community-based disaster risk management, cash distribution, livelihood recovery, and institutional strengthening. Prior to joining the World Bank through the Young Professionals Program, Yoko worked with organizations such as Mercy Corps, MIT Urban Risk Lab, and UNICEF based in Indonesia, Myanmar, and Nepal. Her passion for the work stems from her experience covering the 2011 Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami as a news reporter. Yoko holds a Master in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where she studied as a Fulbright scholar.
