Yonas Eliesikia Mchomvu is a Senior Transport Specialist at the World Bank’s Eastern Africa Transport Unit based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He has been a World Bank Task Team Leader (TTL) and/or team member in project preparation and in implementation support, mainly for transport sector projects covering urban mobility and accessibility, railway, ports, aviation, and roads in Tanzania. As a TTL for the projects supporting the BRT from 2010, he is among the pioneers of Tanzania’s first Bus Rapid Transport System in the country’s commercial capital of Dar es Salaam. Mchomvu has 34 years of experience in the transportation sector, including 16 at the World Bank. Prior to joining the Bank, he worked for Tanzanian government’s Ministry of Works and Transport and the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS). He holds a Masters of Science in Highway Engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam and a degree in Civil Engineering from the same university.
