Water & Sanitation Specialist

Zael is a Water and Sanitation Specialist with academic training in engineering and business administration and over 12 years of professional experience gained internationally, working both for international development institutions and private water and sanitation contractors. Country experience includes fragile states; low, middle and high income countries and four different regions: Europe, North America, Latin America & the Caribbean and North Africa.
 
Working for the World Bank, Zael leads water related economic sector work, technical assistance, capacity building and institutional strengthening initiatives in four countries of the LAC region and co-leads teams in charge of the management of water and sanitation related lending operations in Ecuador. As Water and Sanitation Program (WSP) Country Coordinator for Haiti and Ecuador, Zael led policy dialogue with sector authorities of these two countries. Areas of support provided to national counterparts include, among others, water and sanitation policy making, sector reform, planning and financing, services regulation and PPP for service delivery.
 
Working for the private sector Zael managed all aspects of water and sanitation infrastructure projects (including financing, engineering, construction and operation & maintenance activities) under all kind of contractual arrangements (EPC, BOT, BOO, DBO, O&M); and served as international business developer, coordinating commercial activities in more than 15 countries.
