Zhihong Zhang is a Senior Climate Finance Specialist with the Climate Change Group of the World Bank. He currently leads World Bank’s engagement with multilateral climate funds, including the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF). He works with teams across Regions and Global Practices on investment planning, pipeline development, and portfolio management. Prior to 2020, Zhihong led the Clean Technology Fund and the Scaling up Renewable Energy Program at the CIF, with a combined portfolio of USD 6 billion in over 40 countries. From 2004 to 2011, he served as the Climate Change Focal Area Coordinator at the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and was extensively involved in UNFCCC negotiations on finance and technology transfer. Before joining the World Bank Group, Zhihong was a Chief Technical Advisor with UNIDO/UNDP for energy efficiency programs in China. He holds a Ph.D. in Energy Management and Policy from the University of Pennsylvania.
