There is no denying that governments across the world today are facing increasingly complex pressures that are altering the world in which we live – fragility, conflict and violence; large migration flows; the amplifying impact of technology; tensions in managing scarce resources; and more complicated service provision needs. These pressures are re-defining the relationship between citizens and the state and leaving many asking what the role of government in the 21st century should be.
The Governance Global Practice is hosting a conference on June 27-28 to examine the role of governance in an increasingly complex environment. The event, States of Disruption: Measuring Governance in a Changing World, will feature more than 30 distinguished thought leaders representing diverse perspectives, including:

The conference will feature parallel deep-dive sessions led by experts and short lightning talks by World Bank staff about their perspectives on navigating and improving governance in a rapidly changing world. Field-based World Bank colleagues can engage through “GovBistros” in participating offices across all regions.
