Senior Operations Officer

Kaliope Azzi-Huck (Kali) is a Senior Operations Officer with the World Bank Education Global Practice, based in Washington D.C.. Her work has focused largely on operationalizing social service delivery (particularly education) in fragile environments across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Kali currently serves as the education focal point on the World Bank technical task force for the Coronavirus (COVID-19), tracking country responses and analyzing the impact of the mitigation measures on learning. Previously, she managed the education portfolio in Sierra Leone and response during the Ebola outbreak, and in Liberia during the recent regime transition. Her technical work covers performance-based financing, teacher management, data and institutional systems, and impact evaluations. Countries of experience include: Algeria, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen. Her career prior to the Bank extended to international NGOs and management consulting.

Kali holds a M.A. in Politics and Economics from American University’s School of International Service (D.C.) and Bachelor’s in International Politics and Economics from Middlebury College (VT). She is also a former Caux Scholar.
