Tobias Haque is the World Bank Senior Country Economist for Afghanistan, responsible for a range of budget support, technical assistance, and analytical programs. Tobias has spent time based in several World Bank field offices in the Pacific and in Washington DC, where he worked in a global team providing advice and analysis on public debt management. Tobias has previously worked at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in private sector economic consulting, and in the New Zealand public service. He began his career at the New Zealand Treasury, where he spent time as an advisor in the Office of the Chief Executive. He is a New Zealand national and holds Masters’ degrees in political economy (from the University of Auckland) and finance (from the University of London). He is currently a part-time PhD candidate at the Australian National University, where his research focuses on the political economy of public finance reform in fragile states.
