Join our team: Social media job opening

This page in:
World Bank | Arne Hoel | 2012In 2011, a new conversation began around the future for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region – and it was driven in large part on social media. Our team here at the World Bank has sought to engage in parts of that dialogue on social media platforms, in live chats and in the blog space.

Now we’re in search of a new team member who can help facilitate that social media conversation full time. So who are we looking for? Someone who is passionate about harnessing social media tools to not only drive a conversation with citizens of the MENA region on global development issues, but also establish the World Bank as a trusted voice of development know-how and data in the region.

In this role, you’ll build a vibrant social media conversation with the citizens of MENA and beyond. You will help guide MENA’s digital communication and look for opportunities to innovate. You will be in tune with where the conversations are happening about MENA and among whom.

This role provides a rare opportunity to work with a pool of world-class experts from a wide range of fields, including education, sustainable development, and social accountability. The World Bank offers a world of knowledge. And in this role you will help us share it.

You need:

  • Proven savvy on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Linkedin, Pinterest, Tumblr, Flickr, Kickstarter, Cotweet, Ubervu, Kaltura and more.
  • Solid judgment skills for moderating social media conversations and monitoring or responding to feedback on social media platforms and on blogs.
  • Two to three years experience managing all aspects of an organization’s digital presence including ability to articulate social media strategies, the integration of social media tools, managing content like multimedia and blogs, and the tracking and interpreting of analytics.
  • A demonstrable spirit of innovation and the ability to think outside the box while driving for the results that really matter.
  • A passion for world affairs, an understanding of development, and an openness to cultural differences and sensitivities.
  • Excellent English and demonstrated ability to cut through jargon. Arabic and French are desirable.

  • Interested? Send a cover letter and a resume to isitienei@worldbank.org by April 12. You may also wish to consider the (optional) questions below to tell us more about your vision for the World Bank MENA presence online.

    1. Describe three things you would do to increase audience and engagement in the MENA region through social media.
    2. In this job, what would success look like in 12 months, from your perspective? What metrics actually matter?
    3. Imagine you are in this role. Please draft three sample tweets and three sample Facebook posts that would spark engagement with our audience.
    4. Anything else you’d like to share?
