#IWant2Work4Africa: Meet the Winners

In January, we launched a campaign to find social media interns who could boost social media engagement and connect with young audiences in Africa. More than 30,000 Twitter users across Africa and in the Diaspora participated in the campaign – whether through original tweets or retweets. The 20 or so who ended up on the shortlist all took an online test, and we selected the two who went above and beyond: Sarah Clavel and Maleele Choongo.

 Born and raised in Zambia, 19-year-old Maleele Choongo is a Political Science and Africana Studies pre-law student at Hendrix College. She works on our Anglophone social media channels (@WorldBankAfrica on Twitter and World Bank Africa on Facebook). With a focus on youth involvement, she uses her personal Twitter account, @MissZambia, as a platform for sustainable and human development in Africa.

21-year-old graduate from the University of Sussex in England, Sarah Clavel, who was born in Côte d’Ivoire, works on our Francophone social media channels (@BM_Afrique on Twitter and Banque mondiale région Afrique on Facebook). Sarah uses her personal Twitter account @sarahclavel to learn and share stories of the continent, with an emphasis on the innovative uses of ICT for development, education and accountability.

Over the next few months, you’ll be hearing more from Sarah and Maleele as they look at development in Africa from a youth angle.
