Event Announcement: The Impact of the Economic Crisis on Migration and Remittances, June 1, 2009

The Migration and Remittances Team of the Development Economics Prospects Group (DECPG) of the World Bank is organizing a brown bag lunch seminar on "The Impact of the Economic Crisis on Migration and Remittances" on Monday, June 1, 2009 from 12:00pm-1:30pm, at the Main Complex of the World Bank, 1818 H Street NW, Room MC5-100.  Two eminent scholars, Bimal Ghosh (Colombian School of Public Administration)  and Manuel Orozco (Inter-American Dialogue) will present their views on how the economic crisis is effecting migration and  remittances world-wide.  The event will be chaired by Dilip Ratha, Lead Economist, DECPG.

More about the speakers:

Professor Bimal Ghosh is Emeritus Professor at the Colombian School of Public Administration and a Fellow at the Institute of International Policy and Diplomacy, University of Tadeo Lozano, Bogotá.  Professor Ghosh is an eminent migration expert who has served as the director of a global project on migration management: New International Regime for Orderly Movements of People and as a senior consultant to the United Nations and International Organization for Migration.

Dr. Manuel Orozco is Program Director of the Remittances and Development Program and Senior Associate at the Inter-American Dialogue.  Dr. Orozco is an emininent remittances expert who has published widely on remittances, Latin America, and migration and was the chair of Central America and the Caribbean at the U.S. Foreign Service Institute.
