Amadou Dem

Senior Economist

Amadou Dem is a Senior Economist with the Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation Global Practice at the World Bank. With two decades of international experience, he has worked extensively across South Asia, Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Amadou has led major programs focused on jobs and economic transformation, competitiveness and value chain development, investment climate reforms, entrepreneurship, and public–private partnerships. His recent work includes leading India’s biopharmaceutical innovation program, supporting the development of critical minerals value chains for green technologies, and guiding sustainable tourism initiatives that strengthen private sector participation. 

Amadou has managed complex portfolios in middle-income and resource-rich countries, fragile and conflict-affected states, and small island developing economies. Known for his ability to build strong government and stakeholder partnerships, he consistently delivers programs that promote inclusive, resilient, and private sector–led growth. He holds master’s degrees in Development Economics and International Finance from the University of Paris I Sorbonne and Paris IX Dauphine, as well as a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.
