Iryna Sikora is a Senior Economist in the Trade and Competitiveness and Business (TCB) Global Practice at the World Bank, where she focuses on the intersection between Non-Tariff Measures (NTMs), Quality Infrastructure (QI), and Trade Facilitation (TF). Her work examines how domestic regulatory reforms and strengthened compliance infrastructure can mitigate the market access and trade cost implications of complex regulatory requirements, such as the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the Deforestation Regulation. She contributes to generating global knowledge and translating it into evidence-based support for country diagnostics and country operations.
Iryna's areas of expertise cover environmental and climate economics, carbon and energy markets, regulatory economics, and the application of quantitative analysis tools for policy evaluation and impact assessments.
Before joining the Bank, Iryna led policy-oriented economic analysis in energy and climate at Ricardo Energy and Environment, KPMG, Frontier Economics, and the Chilean Ministry of Energy. She also lectured in environmental economics at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain. She holds a master's degree from Kyiv School of Economics, Ukraine, and a PhD in economics from the University of Alicante, Spain.
