Natnael Simachew Nigatu is a consultant for the World Bank's Solutions for Youth Employment (S4YE) program, which is housed within the jobs group. Previously, he worked as a consultant at the Macroeconomics, Trade, and Investment Practice Group in the World Bank's Inclusive Growth and Sustainable Finance Hub in Malaysia. In these roles, he has contributed to reports and book chapters on various topics such as the global value chain, country climate development reports, circular economy, youth employment, and gig work. His research primarily focuses on the intersection of international trade and labor economics.
Before joining the World Bank, Natnael was a postdoctoral researcher at Lund University in Sweden. He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from Bahir Dar University in Ethiopia and a master's and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Additionally, he was a visiting scholar at Purdue University in the United States.
