Dr. Sumila Gulyani is a senior leader at the World Bank. Currently she leads the World Bank’s Water Practice in South Asia, overseeing a portfolio of US$ 3 billion in projects focusing on water resources management, irrigation, and water supply and sanitation.

Her expertise is in the area of sustainable economic development and infrastructure. Sumila has overseen programs in a range of sectors such as energy, transport, water, urban, environment, agriculture and has worked in many regions of the world, including East Asia, Africa, Europe, Central Asia, South Asia, and the United States.

She also has experience in academia, including at Columbia University (New York) where she served as Assistant Professor and the founding Director of the Infrastructure and Poverty Action Lab (I-PAL).

Sumila holds a PhD in Economic Development and Urban Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA.
