Meet the winners of the #EachDayISee Instagram photo contest

Thanks to everyone who participated in the #EachDayISee Instagram contest and congratulations to our winners! It wouldn’t have been possible without the amazing submissions we received from Instagram users from around the world, all of the people who voted for their favorites with their “likes,” and every organization that supported the contest.

Since we launched the contest on Jan. 12, we've gotten a flood of submissions, each one of them a powerful story. Of the 20 finalists, five stood out from the rest, winning the most “likes” from Instagram users. The winners will receive a hard-copy photo book. National Geographic Your Shot editors picked 20 honorable mentions, so congratulations to them, too!

Here are the winners:

@arlethzarate from Colombia :  “Every day I see them move away and shed their culture to get money in the absence of clear policies that guarantee their rights. We are trying to understand why it has become important to them to ask for money.”

Image
@ginamardones from Brazil :  “A little Indian in her #school in Apucaraninha village. Besides Portuguese literacy, the students take Caingangue classes in order to preserve their language and culture.”

Image

@javierimedinac from Ecuador :   “We want change to improve, to advance and progress. Humanity is aware of the social reality but just looks and does not do their bit for change.”

Image

@nineteenfiftyone from South Sudan : “This is Kaka, a Sudanese primary school student in Ajuong Thok Refugee Camp in South Sudan. ‘Ajuong Thok is a good place for me to learn without hearing gunshots,’ she said.”

Image
@ dereknazley from Kenya: " Not money but a good heart and a pretty soul to help the less fortunate in the society."

Winning the contest was just part of the prize. For us, seeing the power of your photos touched our collective heart. We hope it helps set the wheels in motion toward ending extreme poverty by 2030. So, for that, we thank all of you.
