Social Media at the World Bank: What Can You Get for #1dollar?

ImageImagine you only had $1 in your pocket. What would you spend it on? Food? Electricity? Fuel? Shelter? More than 1 billion people live in extreme poverty —  less than $1.25 a day. World Bank President Jim Yong Kim has called this a “moral stain on our collective conscience” and has challenged world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty by 2030.

If you agree that we can end poverty by 2030, add your voice by telling world leaders that ending extreme poverty is a goal shared by everyone, everywhere.

How can you join the fight to end poverty:

1. Post an answer to the question “What can you buy for #1dollar in your country?” on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Post a photo of yourself holding the $1 item, and tag it with #1dollar so we can see it and add it to the #1dollar Global Conversation Hub.

2. Ask your friends to answer the #1dollar question on social media. Sample post:“ What can you buy for #1dollar? More than 1 billion people live in extreme poverty. Post a photo of what you can buy for #1dollar in your country on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram and tag it with #1dollar to help spread the word: it’s time to end poverty http://zeropoverty2030.org”

Or, share the question directly from our Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram accounts.

3. Sign the global petition asking world leaders to commit to ending extreme poverty by 2030.

Together, we can raise awareness and end extreme poverty. We look forward to seeing your Tweets, Facebook posts, Instagram posts, and signatures.
