Keiko Sakoda is a Senior Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Specialist at the World Bank's South Asia Urban and Disaster Management Unit, where she brings over a decade of operational and technical expertise in building resilience for urban infrastructure and the built environment. Prior to her current role, Ms. Sakoda led the global initiative Building Regulation for Resilience within the World Bank's global unit for climate and disaster risk management. This initiative advances resilient, green, and inclusive built environments worldwide through regulatory and institutional reforms and targeted capacity building. Earlier in her career, she contributed extensively to the DRM and Urban portfolio in South Asia, developing deep operational expertise in post-disaster and post-conflict reconstruction, disaster preparedness, climate change adaptation, and urban development. Before joining the World Bank, Ms. Sakoda held field positions with UNHCR in South Sudan, UNDP and UN-Habitat in Indonesia, and JICA in Mongolia — experience that grounded her technical work in the realities facing communities on the front lines of climate and disaster risk. Ms. Sakoda holds a Master's degree in Architectural Engineering from the Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan.
