Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health

Dr. Monique Eloit has been the Director General of the World Organization for Animal Health since 2016. She joined the Organization as Deputy Director General in 2009. She is a senior civil servant for the French Government and classed as an inspector for veterinary public health. Previously, she occupied several functions within the French Ministry of Agriculture, notably as Deputy Director General for Food, as well as Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) of France, and the French national Delegate to the World Organization for Animal Health. Throughout her career, she has been dealing with numerous sanitary crises, notably with regard to bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), avian influenza, foot and mouth disease and bluetongue epizootics as well as various food safety emergencies.
